Imagine you are in an elevator and only have three minutes to explain your job to those around you. That’s the challenge we set our trainees at the recent research day and we were delighted to welcome a small group of patients and members of the public to help us.
Following some coaching on how best to explain their research to the non-scientist, the trainees presented their ‘elevator pitches’ to the lay panel. Our guests were all highly impressed with the standard of the presentations and gave some helpful and constructive feedback to the trainees on how to hone their presentation skills in the future.
Being able to communicate their research to non-scientists is a vital skill for all our researchers and so we are extremely grateful to all those who took part in this event.
