I started my PhD in 2016, supervised by Mr Kourosh Saeb-Parsy in the Department of Surgery, University of Cambridge, and Dr Mike Murphy in the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit. The project, which is funded directly by the Blood and Transplant Research Unit, aims to understand the role of mitochondria during ischaemia and ischaemia reperfusion injury in human organ transplantation and to investigate mitochondrial compounds as biomarkers for graft outcome.
I completed my Master’s degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Cologne, Germany, in 2014, focusing on the role of mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum on the progression of the neurodegenerative disease HSP. After finishing my thesis, I continued working there in 2015 as research assistant before moving on to start my PhD.
